Our fraction unit is one of the most fun units! Here are the objectives we will accomplish…
-the size of the fractional part changes with the size of the whole
-representing fractions using standard notation, words, numbers, and drawings
-recognizing equivalent fractions
-use known multiplication facts (helper facts) to solve unknown multiplication facts
-use doubling as a multiplication facts strategy
-identify and explain patterns in multiplication products
We have made 2 types of fraction kits already-a circle kit which came with our Everyday Math workbook and a fraction bar kit out of strips of construction paper. Having 2 different ways to think about fractions helps with our flexibility of number. Here is an example of us making equivalent fractions with our fraction bar kits.
