Reading and Writing Workshops

We will begin our unit on biographies. Students will begin this unit with an inquiry into the genre of biography and begin to explore and evaluate biographies to determine the importance of individuals on the world today.  Students will consider what makes someone famous or important by considering their actions and dialogue (speeches), the time period that they lived in, and the people that influenced them along the way.  At the end of this unit, students will be creating a timeline poster or Powerpoint presentation about a famous individual. You will also see ties to our current Social Studies unit which is about the French explorers who come to Michigan.
